Welcome to the second edition of Exceed.
Thank you for the fantastic response to our launch issue of Exceed and its vision of helping to drive a multi-disciplinary spirit across the fields of podiatry, physiotherapy and orthotics and prosthetics.
In this, bigger issue, we tackle some of the major healthcare challenges facing the UK and the rest of the world.
Our four-page diabetes special report including contributions from Dr David Armstrong, an internationally renowned podiatric surgeon, who calls for “fast response foot teams” to dramatically improve the treatment of diabetics.
Elsewhere, in this issue, we hear from Professor Tim Watson who highlights the growing use by medical professionals of electrotherapy to treat pain and aid healing. Professor Watson also shares his thoughts on the increasing move towards patient self-treatment, with the result that clinical time is freed up for more specialist treatment.
Another big issue covered in our latest issue are the exciting advances in 3D printing and, specifically, how this technology will revolutionise the manufacture of bespoke insoles. We interview Professor Nachiappan Chockalingam, Professor of Clinical Biomechanics at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Staffordshire University, who is one of those leading the charge.
We hope you enjoy your Exceed magazine. Please continue to give us your ideas and suggestions for future articles.
