Research from the DFA, QUT and the Wound CRC in Australia has suggested that the ‘silent burden’ of foot disease is afflicting one in ten hospital patients and filling nearly 5,000 hospital beds every night.
The study, the first to look at the burden of foot disease on the Australian health system, was published in the International Wound Journal and analysed 733 adult inpatients from five Australian hospitals on one day.
It found that half of those suffering from foot disease were hospitalised because of their condition.
